LGBT History Month

Cardiff Council will mark this year's LGBT History Month by lighting up City Hall in pink.

City Hall will be illuminated in pink on Wednesday, February 14 while LGBT pride rainbow flags will fly at County Hall and City Hall this week and again later in the month.

LGBT History month is marked every February and aims to increase the visibility of LGBT people, their history, lives and experiences in our communities.

This year's theme is Geography: Mapping the World when countries around the world who are advancing equality for LGBT people will be recognised and celebrated.

Events to mark the month are happening across Cardiff including OUTing the Past exhibition at the Senedd on February 10, an LGBT-friendly Farmers Market at Cardiff Metropolitan University's Llandaff campus on February 20 and the Stonewall Cymru Workplace Conference on February 21.

A series of films promoting equality and diversity are being shown at the media centre at Loudoun Square throughout the month while the Chapter Gay Men's Book Club meets on February 26 at 5:30pm at Chapter.

Cabinet Member for Finance, Modernisation and Performance, Cllr Chris Weaver, said: "Cardiff is a very diverse city. We embrace and celebrate that diversity and are committed to building a fair society where all of our citizens are able to access the services that meet their needs, regardless of sexual orientation, gender, race or ability.

"The Council is committed to LGBT equality and is pleased to be supporting LGBT History month in such a visible way, by lighting up City Hall in pink and flying the rainbow flag there and at County Hall too."
