Four Minutes Thirty-three Seconds| Gregory Warren Wilson

For the very first time this December, New Craftsman Gallery welcomes artist and prize-winning poet Gregory Warren Wilson for a seasonal exhibition of sparkling colour. Gregory's innovative mosaics play with the translucent nature of coloured glass. His work is, in part, sculptural, and is conceived in multiple layers, sometimes as many as six, so that his designs allow light to interact with the exquisite colour and luxurious texture of the glass. Each tessera is hand-cut in Murano with great precision, so that individual pieces reflect and refract light in an extraordinary variety of ways, sparkling, scintillating, and shimmering as you move around the work.

Warren Wilson is also a prize-winning poet. He has published five collections and was awarded an Arts Council Grant for his writing in 2008. A number of his glass designs take as their starting point a fragment of poetry, resulting in a glasswork that exists in its own right while alluding to the original literary source.

As part of the opening preview ofStargazing, Joanna Bird of Joanna Bird Contemporary Collections, London, will be in conversation with Gregory Warren Wilson about the work in this exhibition, and later in the afternoon Gregory will read a fable from his latest bookTwenty-Five Fables, his first work in fiction, which was published in September this year.

Stargazingwill be on show from 4th December 2021 to 8th January 2022. For further information and to book your place at the preview contact New Craftsman Gallery, 24 Fore St, St Ives, Cornwall, TR26 1HE,info@newcraftsmanstives.com, www.newcraftsmanstives.com
