A life-changing new book about love by a divorce lawyer…

Good afternoon,

A life-changing new book about love by a divorce lawyer...

Former divorce lawyer John Bieber's new book,Am I Loved? The most asked question of all time (Umbria Press, May 2021), tackles THE big questions around the human experience, love, relationships, emotions and the meaning of life. It may seem ironic - a divorce lawyer tackling the subject of love - but if anything he's the best person for the job!

He writes, ‘I've witnessed love, experienced love and been deeply blessed with love in my personal life, but as a lawyer handling divorce, I've seen what happens when it's gone, lost forever like a dream that flies away. With love extinguished, perfectly good and reasonable people fall victim to feelings they've never had or imagined before. Things become ugly, tragic and distressing, rendering them incapable of navigating procedures based on rights and entitlements. They are simply too thrall to their emotions to see the wood for the trees.'

Sussex-based, a father and grandfather, John is available for media interviews around the themes in Am I Loved? We can send you a hardback or digital copy of his new book, as well as provide bespoke editorial.

Potential talking points:

  • Tackling tricky emotions.
  • Why do we seek to love and be loved?
  • Why now is the time to manage our emotions and ask ourselves hard questions.
  • How the concepts in Am I Loved? can help support people going through massive life challenges such as divorce.
  • Understanding how we are ruled by our emotions at momentous times in our lives.

ADVANCE INFORMATION SHEET

Am I Loved?

By John D Bieber

TextDescription automatically generated with medium confidenceHow can we function as sophisticated emotional beings when we can neither understand nor control our emotions? That is the question. This book is about nothing if not about being human. It is about love and human needs, about misunderstandings, tragedy, faith and despair, but mostly about love. It is not another novel or self-help book on relationships, just a book that is truly stranger than fiction. It is a book about us, about secrets, life, how life has been protected and lived by a parade of humanity 65 billion names long. This book defines the human condition and the fundamental roles played in our existence by the greatest of all human needs: the need to be loved. It translates the language and reveals the purpose of our emotions so that, at last, we can understand and take charge of them.

Our emotions exist not to benefit us but to safeguard our genes, protecting the life within us. Thus is the language of our emotions translated for us to understand, their crucial interaction with the greatest human need of all, our need to be loved, duly explained. All else flows from this. We spend our lives intent on surviving when fulfilment comes from loving and being loved. Nature's Protections serve to liberate us yet we allow them to inhibit our lives without realising that the majority of our many emotional problems are solvable simply by a proper understanding of the human condition.

Talking points:

John D Bieber's thesis is that everyone, right back to the first Cro Magnon caveman, has got it wrong and this is a guide as to how we can get it right and live better, happier lives. Understanding what we do not understand will be a hugely fulfilling experience significantly enhancing the quality of our lives. Am I Loved? explains how this may be done enabling us to get everything right.

About the Author

A person sitting in a chairDescription automatically generated with medium confidenceAfter a distinguished career as a UK lawyer, formerly with the celebrated Lord Goodman and later with his own law firm, John D Bieber left full time legal work to focus on family life with his wife Joey and four young children in their farm in the heart of Sussex, England, where he could pursue his passion for writing.

Following the adage 'write about what you know' Bieber, an international divorce lawyer wrote 'If Divorce is the Only Way' ( Alma House 1995/Penguin 1997) dealing with the emotional side of divorce. By then a sought-after legal consultant he was keen to ensure that his clients did not repeat the mistakes of their marriage in their divorces, as so many are prone to do.

Concentrating on the emotional and practical side of divorce, it is an invaluable book of guidance, wisdom and compassion. The work was widely endorsed with tributes from the Archbishops of Canterbury and Sydney, the Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth, the Lord Chief Justice of England amongst many other lawyers, medical practitioners, marriage guidance experts and journalists in the UK, Australia and the US.

The work became a resource not only for those going through a divorce but for attorneys who cite it as 'the best work on the subject of managing a divorce process.'

Bieber's perception of the human condition was shaped over decades of witnessing love end. So often the parties to those marriages had been surviving not loving and this observation enabled Bieber to construct a philosophy that has helped him to live and to love in a way all people desire.

Am I Loved? is the culmination of 15 years of contemplation and thought.
