YnNi Tegat Ysgol Meidrim

Pupils at Ysgol Meidrim have been treated to a lesson in energy and its production from Jeremy Thorp, Director of YnNi Teg. YnNi Teg Cyf is a Community Benefit Society who operate a wind turbine near the school, in Carmarthen.

Jeremy Thorp says:
"We had a great day with the fantastic pupils at Ysgol Meidrim. We discussed electricity, fossil fuels, and clean energy. We visited the turbine and did a quiz but hurried back to the school, to build mini turbines in the classroom, due to the wind and rain. The young people did see the turbine working at maximum."

The electricity generation from the turbine is anticipated to be around 2100 MWh per year, enough energy to power 650 homes. The turbine, a 900kW EWT machine is estimated to be preventing 827 tonnes of CO₂from entering the atmosphere a year.

Steffan Jones, Headteacher at Ysgol Meidrim says:
"I would like to thank Jeremy and the YnNi Teg team for coming to give the kids an amazing day full of interesting experiences. I have seen the benefit to the local community of green energy; a 500kW turbine locally started energy generation in May 2016 has created a Community Fund and is now supporting projects in the village."

YnNi Teg is creating a local fund for the benefit of the local community close to the turbine.

Jeremy Thorp says:
"We are dedicated to building stronger and more resilient communities in Wales and spreading the benefit of energy generation across society rather than in the hands of the few. The YnNi Teg share offer is now open and we hope to raise £1.8M."

Anyone aged 16 or over can apply for between £100 and £100,000 in shares. Shareholders automatically become members of YnNi Teg, a registered society. A Registered Society has a set of rules, which have been approved and registered with the Financial Conduct Authority.
