East Yorkshire poultry crowned champion of champions at Yorkshire Taste awards

The team at Middleton on the Wolds T.Soanes and Son Poultry is celebrating after winning two awards at the 2017 deliciouslyorkshireTaste Awards.

The poultry specialist beat stiff competition to be awarded the prize for Best Fresh Meat with its grain fed chicken fillet, which was subsequently awarded the Supreme Product Award.

T Soanes and Son's General Manager, Nigel Upson was delighted with the first award, but overcome with the second award, that is chosen from all of the individual category winners and recognises the champion of champions. "These awards are testament to the hard work of all of our farmers, who work tirelessly with the team at Middleton torear our chickens to high welfare standards that result in great tasting chicken."

The judges,a panel of industry experts including chefs, supermarkets buyers, food critics, industry experts and Radio 2's resident foodie, Nigel Barden, were ‘blown away' by the chicken fillet and said: "This is such a pleasure to eat. It screams quality and whoever reared it should be very proud.

"In a competition that has received in excess of 350 product entries, this year's Supreme Champion stood head and shoulders above its competitors and was a pleasure to judge."

They concluded that it was "A quality product on every level."

Regarded as the largest and most respected food and drink awards in the region, the Taste Awards are organised by deliciouslyorkshire, the campaigning group that aims to make Yorkshire food and drink the consumer's first choice by respecting tradition, encouraging innovation and celebrating great taste.

Judy Bell, chairman of deliciouslyorkshire, said: "Our judging panel certainly had their work cut out, but the products and businesses that have been crowned this year's champions are incredibly well deserving."

T.Soanes and Son is a family owned business which has been rearing and preparing chicken for 70 years. It rears over five million chickens per year on its Yorkshire Wolds farms and sells its poultry and game to butchers and independent retailers in Yorkshire and to wholesalers nationwide.
