  • Used car of the month:Mercedes-Benz C300 Hybrid (2014-)

  • Used bike of the month:Triumph Speed Triple 1050 R (2012-16)

Mycarcheck.com's valuation experts reveal significant trends in the UK used vehicle market and choose a car and bike of the month.

Vehicle valuation manager at mycarcheck.com, Jon Wheeler, said:"The Mercedes C300 Hybrid has everything you'd expect from a C-class - a great drive, attractive styling and a quality interior finish - but with a 27bhp electric motor enabling up to 78.4mpg. It makes an excellent motorway cruiser and offers a great mix of performance, style and efficiency. Check before you buy though because, of all the C-class models we've checked so far in 2017, a higher than average percentage were on finance, a trend which applied to the C300 Hybrids we checked too."

As to market trends,Wheelersaid: "New car registrations fell in August as customers awaited the new 67-plate, but dealers report consistent demand for good used vehicles. Overall, the market continues to perform well and should receive a further boost from some manufacturers offering diesel scrappage schemes. With attractive discounts on selected new vehicles, if you have a qualifying diesel car, this is a great time to trade it in."

On the motorbike, scooter and moped sector, mycarcheck.com's Mark Field said:"The 1050 R is a high spec version of the ever-popular Triumph Speed Triple, which really comes into its own on the track. Although power remains the same at 133hp, it weighs 2kg less than the standard model, with notable upgrades including Ohlins front and rear suspension, Brembo monoblock calipers and forged aluminium wheels. Expect to pay £8,500 - £11,000 for a good used example and check before you buy because, of all the Speed Triple models we've checked so far this year, a higher than average percentage were on finance."

As to market trends,Fieldsaid: "Poor weather meant the summer finished on a slight low, but overall used bike sales have remained fairly strong through the peak selling period. This can be attributed to the increased price of new bikes and also the return of good quality bikes from PCP deals. Demand is such that many dealers are taking to social media and other avenues to proactively source good quality used bikes being sold privately - those traders making the effort are apparently reaping decent rewards."
