Time to hear what patients say - the inpatient mental health survey

The national Inpatient Mental Health Survey is now underway and 100s of randomly selected patients who used our inpatient mental health services between July and December 2016 have received a postal questionnaire asking for their views. Our results are benchmarked and used for monitoring by our regulators and really help us see where we are getting it right for patients and where we need to improve.

Karen Doherty, Head of Patient and Carer Involvement, has said: "So far, 7% of CNWL service users sampled have responded. It's imperative we increase this number as the results of the survey will not only allow us to reflect on what we are doing well, but also shed light on areas where we need to improve."

"We are obviously keen to hear the views of as many service users as possible and are calling for a big response from Hillingdon, Harrow, Kensington & Chelsea, Brent, Milton Keynes and Westminster.

"The survey asks a range of questions such as did patients feel they were treated with dignity and respect and whether they felt involved in decisions. Feedback from the surveys will be key in shaping the future of our services, and helping us to care for patients compassionately."

In the coming week, all of the service users selected will receive a reminder letter asking if they can complete the survey. So now is a great time to get the message out to any service users who had a recent admission that we welcome and value their feedback and want to hear their views and experience of our inpatient services.

Katherine continued, "Our message to every patient is, "Tell us, we're listening. We will act on what is said but the bigger the response the more powerful it is."

The survey runs until the 1st September.
