  • Used car of the month:Volvo V60 (2014-)

  • Used bike of the month:Triumph 675 Daytona (2006-2008)

Mycarcheck.com's valuation experts reveal significant trends in the UK used vehicle market and choose a car and bike of the month.

Vehicle valuation managerat mycarcheck.com, Jon Wheeler, said:"A stylish alternative to its German rivals, the Volvo V60 boasts a premium cabin, sleek modern looks and a great engine line-up. From the 1.6 petrol to the plug-in hybrid and high performance 367bhp Polestar, there's something for everyone. Our pick would be the 190bhp D4 engine, which produces great power while returning sensible mpg figures. You'll find plenty of good used examples and, so long as they've been well looked after, they'll run and run.Of all theVolvo V60models we checked last year, 13.2% had been previously written-off and just 3.3% were on finance. Better than average on both counts."

As to market trends,Wheelersaid: "While the used car market remains consistent, the new car market saw a considerable downshift in April, with registrations down 19.8% on 2016. This is no real surprise as many buyers got in early to swerve the new VED tax rates. In general, thoughts are turning towards the big summer holiday and, unless it is a necessity, getting a new car can wait."

On the motorbike, scooter and moped sector, mycarcheck.com's Mark Fieldsaid:"With its slim frame, compact handling and glorious exhaust note, the Triumph 675 Daytona is a fantastic British alternative to the popular Japanese 600s. The three-cylinder 120+hp engine generates lots of lowdown torque and plenty of midrange power, so you don't need to thrash it like a typical four-cylinder 600. Tread carefully though because, of all the used Triumph 675 Daytonamodels we checked last year, a high 26.7% had been previously written-off and 6.7% were on finance.Expect to pay between £3,500 and £4,500 for a nice 2006-2008 example with full service record."

As to market trends,Fieldsaid: "Year to date registrations are down across the board, except for electric motorbikes. This sector has seen a small increase, boosted by a combination of Government grants and dealers registering them for demo purposes. The lack of new bike sales is starving the used market of part-exchanges, exacerbating the general shortage of good quality used stock."
