Potters Bar business CS Recycling gives its top tips for recycling at Christmas

Ever been confused by what you can and can't recycle at Christmas?

Hertfordshire recycling company CS Recycling has given its top tips and what you can and can't recycle to help you put the right items in the right bin.

  1. Wrapping paper - if the wrapping paper is metallic or covered in glitter, then put it in your general waste bin as this can't currently be recycled. If it is just good, old fashioned paper, then stick it in your recycling bin

  2. Glittery cards - if your Christmas cards are covered in glitter, then this makes them harder to recycle. So better to put them in your general waste bin

  3. Pringles tubes - we all love to snack at Christmas while watching our favourite movies. But Pringles tubes are hard to recycle, so put them in your general waste bin

  4. Cranberry Sauce jars - glass jars can always be recycled, so just wash out any leftover sauce and stick it in your recycling bin

  5. Toy boxes - after the kids have finished playing with the boxes rather than the toys you have given them, then recycle the cardboard boxes. If they have a polystyrene insert in the box, then these should go into the general waste bin. But if they have a cardboard insert to hold the product, then recycle them.

CS Recycling managing director Craig Curtis said: "At Christmas we buy lots that we wouldn't normally throughout the year. This can mean it gets harder to decide whether items should go into your recycling bin or not. Hopefully, our top tips will help you when you are hovering over the bin trying to decide which one to put it in."
