‘The Mango Girl' acquired by D Street Media Group

--Gripping memoir set for 2018 theatrical release--

For Immediate Release:

London, United Kingdom, December 11, 2017: ‘The Mango Girl,' based on the book by Dr. Ava Brown, is set to become a feature film, with a planned US theatrical release in late 2018, followed by an expected UK and international bow shortly thereafter. The astonishing story, inspired by the tumultuous yet inspiring life of the Jamaican-born Doctor, has been acquired by the film production and distribution company D Street Media Group, headquartered in New York City.

Self-published by Dr. Brown in 2017, ‘The Mango Girl' opens in a poor, rural area of Jamaica, where the need to find food often won the battle over school attendance. Ava's journey through her teenage years was encased in the dark shadows of incest, homelessness, and sexual abuse. Her life took an unprecedented path when she was sexually assaulted at gunpoint in front of her then three-year-old daughter. Ava fled her home country to London with her daughter and young son, where she now lives and works.

Dr. Brown's incredible resilience and love for her native country allowed her to see the harsh and disappointing experiences as stepping stones to becoming a strong and self-reliant woman, one who can help society break the cycle of poverty and often its negative effects. ‘The Mango Girl' is a story that breaks your heart before it heals and inspires.

"It's a real honour to board this incredible project. Ava's story is an inspiration to us all. I believe part of the healing process is telling the truth, and Dr. Brown certainly stands in hers and we are the better for it," says Davis, founder and CEO of D Street Media Group.

Author and entrepreneur Ava Brown went on to say, "I am thrilled that my story, ‘The Mango Girl' is going from book to screen, and from strength to strength. I'm proud to be able to demonstrate that where you're from does not determine where you end up. I've shown that despite the odds, you can achieve your dreams, and I'm grateful for the support of Dexter Davis and the incredible team at D Street; for their belief in my story and for seeing the potential for the film version of ‘The Mango Girl' on a global scale. D Street Media Group is closely aligned with my own values. I am tremendously excited about the year ahead."
