North Yorkshire mum to pit herself against UK's most beautiful bodies

PICKERING MUM PREPARES TO PIT HERSELF AGAINST SOME OF UK’s MOST BEAUTIFUL BODIES

Local personal trainer Katherine Bray is just days away from taking part in one of the UK’s most challenging bikini contests.

The mum-of-two, who runs her own Katherine Bray Fitness Coach business, will be pitting herself against some of the nation’s fittest, strongest people, at the Pure Elite World Championships Bikini and Bodybuilding Contestin Margate, this Saturday.

And to gear up for this major challenge, she is following a strict regime of 6am gym sessions, calorie and content-controlled diets and ‘posing practice’, with a view showing off the results of her efforts in two categories: Bikini Divas Over 35s and Mums That lift amateurs. If she places in these categories, she may then be eligible to compete later that evening in the professional categories, so it’s all to play for!

Katherine, who has previously taken part in the renowned ‘Miss Galaxy Universe’ pageant, said: “Miss Galaxy was challenging but Pure Elite really is the epitome of the fitness world in this country, and a gateway to professional competition. I’m pushing myself to the limits in preparation, and going there with a winner’s mindset.”

Katherine is passionate about personal fitness as a route to achieving the best out of all aspects of life, and works with people of all ages and abilities across East and North Yorkshire, helping them to improve their overall health, self-confidence and outlook on life.

She believes in pushing herself as a way of developing her own knowledge about diet and fitness, and inspiring those she works with.

“For me, it’s important to lead by example,” said Katherine.

“Taking part in competitions like this means I have to be at the absolute peak of my health, fitness and physique and my message to others is ‘I’m just an ordinary single mum juggling raising a family with the demands of running my business, and look what I can achieve – if I can do it, you can too’.”

And she is hoping to pass on her learnings from the competition to her clients.

“I don’t just run fitness training sessions, I also educate people about diet and the mix of food they need to help them lose weight and achieve their optimum health. Most of those who come to me for help are really confused by all the conflicting advice about diet that’s out there. They don’t know whether they should be eating less fat, less carbs, less sugar – and what overall balance they need to strike.

“I am having to be so disciplined in what I eat, and what exercises I do, to get into the best possible shape for this competition, that it’s really refining my knowledge about what works, and I intend to share those insights with others through tailored diet plans in the future.”

The two-day competition will see Katherine lining up against other super-fit competitors to show off her streamlined, lightly toned physique.

She said: “The hardest part of the preparation has been learning to hold and present myself in the best possible light, and make it look as natural as possible in a bikini and high heels! I’m so determined to give this my best shot that I’ve been travelling to Leeds for some specialist coaching from an experienced posing coach.

“I’ve also had to weigh and count the calorie content of all my food – there have been absolutely no food or drink treats for the past couple of months.

“I’m normally very fit and active anyway, given what I do for a living, but I’ve been undertaking regular, targeted exercises to develop the right level of muscle tone in all the correct places.

“It’s been incredibly tough but a great experience, and I’ve discovered a lot about myself and the strength and reserves of will power I have within me!”
