Wood for Trees CEO joins panel for Third Sector GDPR briefing

Dear

The clock is ticking down to the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in May 2018 - and many charities remain unprepared. MyLife Digital are presenting at a GDPR briefing next week to help charities comply with the new regulations. More below - if you need any further information please let me know.

Wood for Trees CEO jo
ins panel for Third Sector GDPR briefing

19thSeptember 2017, Bath, UK:Wood for Trees Chief Executive Officer, J Cromack, will take part in an expert panel discussion at Third Sector's GDPR Briefing on 26thSeptember 2017 in London's Regent St Cinema.

The briefing aims to help charities with preparations for the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in May 2018. Operating under the new GDPR will entail all organisations reviewing how they obtain and use personal data; and to ensure compliance - addressing existing processes, policies and practices.

Charities will need to conform to new rules about how they contact both new and existing supporters. Recent research conducted by Wood for Trees showed that many charities still have work to do towards being GDPR compliant. When the privacy policies of 45 UK-based charities were analysed, only 32% vaguely mentioned that data is collected and 7% did not mention it at all.

Wood for Trees is sponsoring Third Sector's GDPR Briefing, where delegates will be given the opportunity to anonymously submit sections of their GDPR communications, such as privacy policies and consent statements. A panel of experts including Wood for Trees CEO, J Cromack and Head of Data Governance and Compliance at GOSH Children's Charity, Claire Robson, will discuss and dissect them to ensure they are on the right track.

Wood for Trees Chief Executive, J Cromack said, "A number of high profile charities were taken to task last year by the ICO for non-compliance with the Data Protection Act. From May next year, charities can be fined for not complying with the new regulation - and those fines can be up to 4% of turnover or €20m, whichever is the greatest and dependent on severity of non-conformity.

"The requirements of the GDPR are stringent and the potential consequences far-reaching so doing nothing should not be an option. But it isn't just about the threat of sanctions. GDPR is so much more. Organisations that embrace GDPR will find themselves in a better position to strengthen trust and maximise opportunities for engagement with their supporters."
