You are invited to a very exclusive event to launch Stephanie Nimmo's memoir: Was This In The Plan? published by Hashtag Press on September 12th 2017. Join us for gin and cake to celebrate this very special occasion with Stephanie Nimmo and her family.

Steph's story has attracted a LOT of attention since news about the book landed earlier this year, and her memoir is being hailed as the ultimate inspirational story. But, Steph wants this to be much more than 'just a book launch'. On the night of the launch party it would have been Steph and Andy's silver wedding anniversary, and Steph promised Andy she would write and publish her book.

Andy passed away in December 2015, their daughter Daisy, who had lived for 12 years with a life-limiting illness called Costello Syndrome, died just 13 months later. The family went from six to four in a matter of months. But this is far from a sob story. Steph is on a mission, to help those who are living to talk about death, to help us Brits stop shying away from the difficult conversations. So this event will be more than 'just a book launch' - this will also be a death cafe, facilitated by Steph, to help us address questions such as:

What music will play at your funeral?
Do you want to be buried or cremated?
What's been the soundtrack to your life so far?

The evening will be a party, a celebration of Steph and Andy's marriage, of their children, but also a chance to recognise the hard work that has gone into publishing this book - Was This In The Plan?

Copies will be available to purchase for £10 on the evening (RRP is £12.99).

Press kits and review copies will be available to the press (and are also available upon request in advance). Please register for a press pass for the event. For filming, interviewing and photography opportunities at the event please get in touch: info@literallypr.com. To speak about media opportunities in advance of the event please contact helenlewis@literallypr.com. For trade/distribution questions please contact info@hashtagpress.co.uk.

ABOUT THE BOOK

What if you thought you had your life mapped out but then things didn't go according to plan?

In 2004 Stephanie was a career-focused, suburban mother of three, happily married to the love of her life, Andy. In December that year their fourth child was born and life as Steph knew it changed dramatically.

From having to give up a successful career to care for her fragile, life limited daughter, to learning how to cope with the challenges of her sons' autism diagnoses and the final cruel blow of Andy's terminal cancer, Steph learned very early on that it's not the cards you are dealt in life but how you play them.

Far from being a misery memoir, Was this in the Plan? Is a frank, open and no-holds-barred account of how a family was determined not just to survive but to thrive when the odds were against them. It will make you question your own attitude to life and how you choose to respond when unexpected events throw you off course.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Stephanie Nimmo grew up in the Victorian seaside town of Penarth in South Wales. She attended the United World College of the Atlantic and subsequently gained a degree in Social Anthropology at Kent University. She moved to London in 1990 and has never left. These days she refers to herself as London Welsh.

Marriage to her long term partner Andy followed together with a mortgage and children. Her successful international marketing career was cut short on the arrival of her fourth child, Daisy, who was born with a rare, life limiting genetic condition. Overnight Steph became a full time carer and entered a world of which she had no prior experience.

She has written about the issues facing carers and people with disabilities in her multi-award nominated blog, Was this in the Plan?. She has also written for The Guardian, Mumsnet, The Independent and The Huffington Post as well as being featured on BBC Ouch!, the BBC's disability channel. She received a National Carer's Award from Carer's UK in 2016.

Andy, Steph's husband and partner of 27 years passed away in December 2015 following a diagnosis of terminal cancer the year before. 13 months later her daughter Daisy also passed away, she had just turned 12. Steph lives in Wimbledon, South West London, with her three surviving children and their dog, Pluto. Steph personifies resilience. She is determined that despite everything that has happened in her life she will thrive and not just survive.
