Top A-level grades for Cardiff!

A-level results released today have shown an increase in the number of A* to A grades for Cardiff and an overall pass rate in line with last year.

Based on provisional results, A* to A grades have reached 30.2%. This is an increase of almost two percentage points on 2016 results, and significantly above the 2017 national average of 25%.

It is the first time since 2015 that A* to A grades have reached more than 30%, and this year's figure is the second highest of the past six years.

The overall pass rate for 2017 - that is the number of entries resulting in A* to E grades - stands at 98.1%, remaining higher than the national average, which stands at 97.7% this year.

For entries graded A* to C, the 2017 figure stands at 78.7%, slightly down on last year's 80.3%, but remaining above the 75.3% national average.

Cabinet Member for Education, Employment and Skills, Cllr Sarah Merry said: "I want to say a huge well done to all the students who got their results today.

"I know only too well the amount of hard work and dedication that is needed to achieve success. Everyone deserves to be congratulated: students, staff and of course parents and carers.

"It is very pleasing to see the percentage of A* to A grades on the up in Cardiff again this year, and the overall pass rate remaining high. The city's A-level performance has always been strong, and these provisional results indicate that this year will be no different.

"As the Council's Capital Ambition sets out, a great education will help everyone in Cardiff to achieve their full potential. We will continue to invest in and improve our schools to make sure that every child has the best possible start in life.

"I wish all the students the very best for the future as they move on to training, employment and university."

All results are provisional at the time of writing, based on data from all examinations boards.
