How To Get Back Your Mojo

By Understanding Your Inner Gremlin

By Ann McCracken

Are you stuck in a rut? Getting that Monday feeling every day of the week? Struggling to keep up/cope/keep going? Need some help to manage stress? How To Get Back Your Mojo has all the answers!

[image]Ann McCracken is a scientist, psychotherapist, author and trainer in stress, wellbeing and resilience. She has decades of experience working with organisations and individuals and she is the former Vice President of the International Stress Management Association. Stress is her specialist subject! Ann's first book, The Stress Gremlins - is a practical self-help book with exercises and ideas to support good mental health. This new book -How To Get Back Your Mojo- takes the Gremlin concept even further; as a unique way of providing an explanation about how we react to situations and helps individuals to recognise their reactions and inform their behaviour.

Ann's work with more than 2,000 clients led her to search for a simple way of helping people to understand how they feel and why. This search is the foundation of her new book -How To Get Back Your Mojo. Combining neuroscience and common sense, Ann has created a fresh concept to engage lots of people to feel great. The over-riding message is simple yet powerful: we are responsible for our own health and happiness. Ann says: "We can take control of our lives and many health conditions by noticing and recognising the emotions we create".

Quick fire Q&A with author Ann McCracken:

[image]Q. Why did you choose a ‘Gremlin' to portray emotions and health?

A. "They are mystical creatures and in this context they are associated with health; their diet is the emotions we feed them."

Q. Which of your different careers informed you on the topic of emotional health?

A. "All of them! As a current, practising psychological therapist I have explored emotions and behaviours with thousands of clients in London, Essex and the Midlands and learned the wide variety of physical and psychological effects emotions can elicit. As a research Immunologist and Microbiologist I developed an enquiring mind based on sound evidence and have combined these two aspects to inform my Gremlin concept, which explains very simply how we react the way we do."

Q. What is the advantage of a positive thinking style?

A. "E-motion is energy in motion and positive energy is a great force for good and encourages acceptance of what life throws at us. Positive thinking provides the enthusiasm to be flexible in the face of challenges and enhances our Mojo."

Q. How will this book help improve a person's health?

A. This book is an adventure in self-awareness; it encourages the reader to observe their thinking style - is it positive or negative? I hope it will help readers to appreciate that feeding on positive emotions like delight, excitement and empathy creates Mojo and good health whereas unhelpful emotions like anger, despair and helplessness create passive and out of control feelings.

Q. You advocate self-responsibility, is this possible for everyone?

A: Currently it feels like we exist in a blame culture and the Gremlin concept helps people to make a tiny shift by considering their emotions and reactions, and noticing how good it feels to take some control of your life. Anyone can do this when they want to make positive changes in their health and their life."
