‘Legendary’ Dance Rebellion Event to hit Castles this Summer

PRESS RELEASE 14.07.17

‘Legendary' Dance Rebellion Event to hit Castles this Summer

The Disgo Distaw Owain Glyndŵr Silent Disco will be hosted in the four iconic, World Heritage Site, castles of North Wales this summer. On the night headphones will lead you through the Legend of Owain Glyndŵr and his Welsh revolt, 1400 and 1415, set to a sound track of DJ mixing club classics and original tunes.

This new night out for families, young people and rebels has been created to inspire, entertain and inform.

Councillor Ioan Thomas, Cabinet Member for Economic Development says:

"This summer we have been inspired to create a legendary event at legendary locations inspired by the legendary Owain Glyndŵr. We want to build our night time economy by creating a unique and fun night out for visitors and locals. Working together with Cadw, Snowdonia National Park Authority, Isle of Anglesey Council, Conwy County Borough Council our tourism and marketing team here at Gwynedd Council have created and commissioned a unique and innovative night out."

The sound track for the event has been created by Light Ladd & Emberton a collective of three Wales-based dance artists; Deborah Light, Eddie Ladd and Gwyn Emberton and produced by Laura Drane. They have used historical facts to create an event where two teams settle scores and interact while dancing to a DJ sound track.

Laura Drane, Producer at Light Ladd & Emberton says:
"The show is played out using professional performers and those attending, in a series of scenes, actions, tasks, and dances. The soundtrack and the callers' voices, through the Silent Disco headphones, will provide the tunes and direct the action, in Welsh and English. Come and dance the rebellion and discover Glyndwr's story."

The performances are suitable for all ages and are priced at £3 each or £10 for a family of four. The 45 minute show can be experienced at 6.30pm and 8pm at Beaumaris Castle 27 and 28 July, Conwy Castle 30 July, Harlech Castle 1August and Caernarfon Castle 3 August 2017.

Running as part of Visit Wales' campaign to promote Wales' 2017 Year of Legends the event states, ‘One legend, two teams, headphones, now dance'. This project is sponsored by Welsh Government through the Visit Wales regional engagement fund.

Economy Secretary, Ken Skates, said:

"I'm delighted that we've been able to support this innovative project which brings our past to life in such a contemporary way. During our Year of Legends, it's more important than ever to connect people to Wales' rich heritage and culture by creating exciting and immersive events and experiences such as this at some of our iconic sites."

There are limited tickets available for each performance. To secure a place in the rebellion book in advance via Eventbrite. Tickets will also be available on the door; more information is available athttp://www.visitsnowdonia.info/owain_glyndr-297.aspx.
