The plant room of a popular school in Suffolk has been upgraded in terms of its energy efficiency and reliability, as the result of a smoothly executed refurbishment contract carried out by specialist consultants and installers experienced in education work.

The project at Westley Middle School in Bury St Edmunds was completed in time for the start of the current academic year (September 2016) by Midlands based Trinity Heat Care Limited, with Maverick Consultancy being responsible for the M&E design and specification of the equipment.

As a result a pair of Stokvis R605 boilers were installed by Trinity, along with one of Stokvis Energy Systems' C3Ai Econoplate plate heat exchangers and a 500 litre buffer vessel: providing the school with all its heating and domestic hot water for the washrooms, showers and catering requirements. Currently teaching 468 pupils aged 9-13, the school hosts some 60 clubs each week, both at lunchtime and after school: including activities such as basketball, soccer and badminton.

Dave Goble, who heads Maverick Consultancy, commented: "I cover not just the Midlands but projects nationally, working in the education as well as commercial and other sectors; so am frequently involved with the installation or replacement of large commercial boilers. In the case of the Westley Middle School in Bury St Edmunds I specified the Stokvis R605 boilers, together with a plate heat exchanger based on my past experience of working with Stokvis: their reliability and the technical support the company offers."

The Stokvis R600 range encompasses seven models with outputs from 142 to 539kW, allowing them to provide either heating for LTHW systems, DHWS or even process water for high demand applications; leading to their specification for various large public and private sector premises such as schools, hospitals, commercial offices and sports complexes. Fully modulating and offering very low NOx, they are also compact enough to be manoeuvred through doorways from 670 to 770 mm wide; making them ideal for refurbishment situations.
