ATLAS PACKAGING WIN INNOVATION OF THE YEAR WITH £1.75M CUIR FLEXOPRINT MACHINE
Packaging industry leaders, Atlas Packaging, won Innovation of the Year at the North Devon Manufacturers Association Awards on Thursday 18th May at The Barnstaple Hotel.
Added to the Atlas arsenal in September 2016, the Cuir Flexoprint Machine advances the process of flexographic printing to meet customer requirements that are constantly evolving and challenging traditional print processes. The Cuir machine is more than just a 6 x Colour Flexo printing machine; it also adds the process of printing UV coatings and varnishes onto corrugated material - a real innovation for the industry, as this machine is the first of its kind in the market. Atlas Packaging have used the £1.75m machine for a small number of current customers, and will open this to all customers in Quarter 2 of 2017.
This was awarded Innovation of the Year as not only does this address customer needs and demands, but also challenges the marketplace with new technologies. This provides an evolvement in both high quality flexo printing as well as the addition in UV inks and coatings for corrugated packaging.
In addition, the Cuir machine is estimated to create additional jobs over the next 3-5 years in Barnstaple. Bespoke training of operatives has been enforced, and the whole business has had to adopt a different approach regarding high quality flexo post print. Additional re-structure has had to accommodate the addition, providing an exciting chapter for Atlas Packaging, and future processes within the factory.
