This year’s International Women’s
Day theme is #BeBoldForChange. Women need confidence to stand up and shout from
the rooftops about their small businesses in order to grow their businesses.
However it is confidence and credibility that are the main challenges women
face when running their businesses according to a recent survey carried out by
the FSB (Federation of Small Business) to a sample of 2000 women.
The FSB has tied in with Facebook
and Enterprise Nation to run a national campaign called #SheMeansBusiness with
the aim to reach 10,000 female business owners and to address these issues.
Having set up two small
businesses from scratch and working with hundreds of women in business, Amanda has come
across the same challenges time and time again. Typical comments are ‘I
am petrified at the thought of self-promotion but I know it’s vital if I want
to be seen and to grow my business’. She finds even the most expert
experts lack the confidence to self-promote!
With almost 1.5 million women in
the UK who are self-employed, however women’s businesses have a higher churn
rate (source http://www.prowess.org.uk/facts
plus Women in Enterprise: A Different Perspective, RBS Group 2013).
Fear of being judged for showing
off or not having expertise impedes business growth. It is vital that
women are equipped with the essential ‘business-life-skill’ called
Self-Promotion so that they grow their businesses as their self-confidence
grows, be it pitching to the press or standing up at a the dreaded networking
meetings.
Amanda Ruiz trains and mentors entrepreneurs how to self-promote in a non-pushy salesy way. She is on a one woman mission to get more businesswomen to speak up about their achievements and accomplishments and to have the confidence self-promote to pitch to the press, to their networking groups and to corporates.
