Detta Textiles nominated in prestigious Gift of Year Awards 2017

Detta Textiles' innovative and exciting range of lambswool knitwear, wraps, throws, heritage blankets and clutch bags has been shortlisted in the prestigious Gift of the Year awards for 2017.

Gift of the Year is organised by the Giftware Association, which has been supporting suppliers and retailers in the Gift and Home industry since 1947. The awards are aimed at ‘crowning the achievements of the most innovative and exciting products new-to-market'.

Detta Textiles recently revealed its new autumn/winter collection which includes up to the minute designs and colourways, and brand new products including:

  • Fairisle patterned scarves, an exclusive lambswool luxury wrap and clutch bag range

  • The Detta ‘Shortie' - a new and innovative way of wearing a short scarf, smart enough to wear for work on chilly days

  • The Detta Snood - a soft, generous snood perfect for the more active among us.

Handmade in England, Detta Textiles was founded by textile designer Berni Raeside-Bell. The Detta brand represents the best in Heritage Craft Knitwear, inspired by our rich island heritage.

Berni said: "I'm over the moon about this incredible nomination. As a new brand I'm working hard to cement Detta's place in the market, and to raise awareness of the range and its versatility.

"While much of my work is based around the concepts of ‘heirloom' and ‘heritage', making it the ideal fit for high end retailers, I also have a number of equally high quality products ideal for the wider gift and accessories market, such as scarves, bags and cushions."

Detta's products are all handmade on vintage framework knitting machines at their studio in South Derbyshire and Berni uses British-spun lambswool sourced from local mills.

David Kukadia of the Gift Association said: "Detta Textiles is synonymous with design and quality, taking inspiration from British history and using framework machines to produce 100% British-spun lambswool Heritage Craft Knitwear scarves, wraps, blankets and fashion accessories. An ideal gift!"

The winners will be announced on 5 February 2017 during Spring Fair at the NEC in Birmingham.

About Detta

Our studio is based in Kegworth Village (on the Leicestershire/ Nottinghamshire/ Derbyshire border), which has a deep rooted history in framework knitting, with many families in the village up to the 1960's involved in a thriving cottage industry, knitting stockings and socks in their homes on framework machines for the larger factory. With the development of technology, this Kegworth industry died out and so Detta Textiles is very proud to be now knitting once again on framework machines in the heart of the village.

We only use 100% British spun lambs' wool and use craft yarns interspersed in certain designs, sourced locally in the UK.

Each knitted item is carefully handmade, washed, felted if required and hand finished in the studio. Each item is then packaged carefully and our lambs' wool felted wraps come boxed so that they can be looked after and handed down as an heirloom, just like the Aran sweaters that inspired them.

Our studio is open every Friday and Saturday mornings to the public.

Inspiration

Detta's colours are mostly inspired by the windswept and craggy coastlines of Ireland, Scotland and the British Isles as well as the flora and fauna that inhabit that landscape. Berni's upbringing in Dublin, a bustling metropolitan capital, can also be seen in the patterns she creates, reflecting the historical as well as modern architecture we see in cities today.
