Award winning and ex-Laura Ashley interior designer holds inaugural workshop in the Cotswolds

Lauren Gilberthorpe is sharing secrets from the world of interior design at an event in Withington near Cheltenham. Lauren, 30, whohas worked for prestigious interior design companies in London and the Cotswolds, has set up her business and design studio in anewly renovated Cotswolds barn and will be hosting the interactive workshop on 1stOctober for those who are interested in or who have thought about working on interior design for themselves.

Lauren says: ‘So often I meet people that are interiors obsessed but don't have the confidence or technical knowledge to complete their own projects. I've created this event to properly help people with their own decorating schemes - and of course there will amazing food! The workshop will be truly interactive and informative - I want people to feel that they have had a fun day but also have learnt a lot.'

During the workshop Lauren will be covering four of the main key elements to interior design: space planning, lighting, colour and styling.

Lauren, who moved to the Cotswolds for just over a year, has had a lifetime passion for interior design. She says: ‘In my head, I've been an interior designer since I was about five years old.

‘I was constantly moving furniture around in my bedroom and was lucky that my parents were quite flexible when it came to paint choices! I studied design at Winchester School of Art and from there, worked for the Laura Ashley Design Service in Central London. I then progressed to work as a senior designer for a couple of well respected interior design studios but having my own business in Gloucestershire is perfect and I am delighted to call it home. I've met some amazing people and businesses in the Cotswolds. It is a rather special place full of inspiring people with interesting stories, not to mention the incredible landscape and beautiful houses.'

During the workshop Lauren will have some of her favourite interior design brands for attendees to work with including Farrow & Ball,Rowen & WrenOKAOsborne & LittlePookyCotswold Candle Co, andLoaf.

She is keen to show people during the workshop how fun interior design can be. Lauren says: ‘I think good interior design should make you smile and make you feel at home as soon as you walk into a room. Comfort and practicality should come first, and then you get to make it look great. My favourite designer is Kit Kemp, owner of Firmdale Hotels. Her designs are innovative, playful and I find them hugely inspirational. She also collaborates with sculptors, artists and makers and I think this gives her work a very unique feel.'

Lauren has set up the workshop to highlight how interior design can be accessible and to showcase that it can also be affordable. She adds: ‘I genuinely think that interior design doesn't need to be seen as something for only the mega-rich. That's why I offer a range of different services and why I am starting my interior workshops. My goal is to make quality and professional interior design accessible for more people. The workshop will be an illuminating step in the right direction for lots of people who fancy their hand at interior design.'
