Yorkshire Wagyu producer feasts its eyes on festival

 

A Wagyu company from the Yorkshire Wolds will be joining big names from the culinary and music industries when it makes its first appearance at a popular family Cotswolds festival.

 

Tibthorpe based The Yorkshire Wagyu Company team is hoping to tempt crowds at The Big Feastival 2016 with a menu filled with speciality Wagyu burgers and pies, all served from its mobile catering trailer, the WOW (Wonders of Wagyu) Wagon.

 

It is the first major food festival for The Yorkshire Wagyu Company since it launched in 2014 and their catering trailer will be installed in the food and drink market over the three-day event that takes place over the August bank holiday weekend, from 26 to 28.

 

On offer will be Wagyu burgers in brioche buns, Wagyu pies from the Great North Pie Company, tomato chutney from York artisan producer Puckett's Pickles and chips fried in Wagyu fat.

 

Farmer and co-founder The Yorkshire Wagyu Company, Jonathan Shepherd said they had been very encouraged by the reception that Yorkshire Wagyu products and the WOW Wagon received last summer and wanted to spread the word about Wagyu further afield.

 

"The Big Feastival is the perfect place to take our WOW Wagon as it attracts foodies, and there are some fantastic food, drink and lifestyle brands exhibiting so there'll be a great atmosphere.

 

"Our chef Nick Dawson will be running the wagon and he loves sharing his passion for Wagyu with audiences."

 

The Big Feastival, set up by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and Blur-musician-turned-cheesemaker, Alex James, takes place on James' farm in Kingham, Oxfordshire. It attracts over 20,000 daily visitors and this year, headliners include Kaiser Chiefs, Mark Ronson, Tinie Tempah and Ella Henderson.

 

The festival is just as famous for its Food Village and is a hit with families thanks to the schedule of children and family activities.

 

The Yorkshire Wagyu Company's WOW Wagon has proven to be a popular feature at private events alongside food fairs and festivals. Jonathan said the WOW Wagon has enjoyed a surge in demand this year having catered for18th to 90th birthdays, weddings, anniversaries and corporate events.

 

"The WOW Wagon enables us to introduce more people to the fantastic taste of our Wagyu meat, and we've been lucky because wherever we go, it tends to be well received," he added.

 

"We find that we appeal to people who wouldn't normally buy a burger but our Wagyu meat offers something that bit different.


"Our hope is to extend the distribution of our Wagyu in the south of England and drive traffic to our online shop that launches next month."
